About these figures: the map and the listings on this page show Florence Lake pet-friendly condos and townhomes only. There are too few pet-friendly condos and townhomes for a separate report, so the six statistics describe the whole Florence Lake market.
Search Florence Lake condos and townhomes that allow pets, in a Langford neighbourhood around Florence Lake on the Westshore. The live map and statistics above show how many are for sale now and at what prices.
Florence Lake pet-friendly condos are the strata homes in this north Langford neighbourhood whose listings report that pets are allowed. Nearly all of them are apartments in the newer buildings on Whirlaway Crescent, Gateway Road, Pharoah Mews and City Gate Boulevard, close to the Strachan Trail that circles Florence Lake. Townhomes are rare here, so expect most choices to be one- and two-bedroom suites.
There are too few pet-friendly listings for a report of their own, so the statistics above and the Florence Lake market report cover the whole neighbourhood. For condo-only figures and a building-by-building look, see Florence Lake condos for sale.
The Whirlaway, Gateway, Pharoah and City Gate buildings each file their own limits on the number, size and type of pet.
Mostly one- and two-bedroom apartments in buildings finished from 2018 on, with the occasional townhome.

The pet field is a one-line summary. The bylaws filed for each building decide what your animal may do.
Most Florence Lake pet-friendly condos are in mid-rise buildings completed between 2018 and the mid-2020s: the Whirlaway Crescent buildings, the Gateway Road group between City Gate Boulevard and McCallum Road, the Pharoah Mews building and the newest address on City Gate Boulevard. Each building has its own strata corporation and its own pet bylaw, so two suites a block apart can carry quite different rules. The live map shows which homes are listed today.
Because the Florence Lake strata market is almost entirely apartments, a pet owner's choice here is mostly about the building and the floor, not about condo versus townhome. That makes the bylaw, the suite's position and the walk to the lake the three things to compare.
The Strachan Trail circles Florence Lake, with two boardwalks over the water and a boat launch on the north shore. The usual walk is an easy route of about three kilometres out and back, mostly on boardwalk and sidewalk, that follows the south shore and then Florence Lake Road along the east side. The trailhead is on Savory Road, reached from Millstream Road by way of McCallum Road. Dogs are welcome on a leash, and in autumn the trees around the shore turn colour.
Plan around summer swimming. The City of Langford says dogs are not allowed on Langford beaches from June 15 to September 15, and Florence Lake is a popular place to swim on hot days. Langford, Glen and Florence lakes are also stocked with trout, so expect anglers on the boardwalks and keep a dog close to you when you pass.
Langford's Animal Responsibility Bylaw applies the day you move in. Any dog kept in the city for more than 30 days needs a licence once it is four months old, and licences expire on December 31 each year. In public places you must carry a leash no longer than 1.8 metres, dogs must be leashed on playgrounds and public beaches, and waste has to be picked up right away. Dogs may run free only in areas signed as off-leash by the City or the Capital Regional District. The City's parks page lists Danbrook Park on Danbrook Avenue as a park where dogs may be off leash. Keeping more than four dogs over four months old on one property needs a kennel licence, although a strata's limit will almost always be far lower.
Each building on Whirlaway Crescent, Gateway Road, Pharoah Mews and City Gate Boulevard registers its own bylaws at the Land Title Office. Ask for the current bylaws and rules, recent council minutes and any notice of an upcoming general meeting, then check that the limits on number, size and type cover your pet. What a seller or a neighbour tells you is not the bylaw.
Many British Columbia strata corporations use the province's Standard Bylaws, and that matters in a neighbourhood of young buildings like Florence Lake. Unless a strata passes its own pet bylaw, Standard Bylaw 3(4) allows a reasonable number of fish or small aquarium animals, a reasonable number of small caged mammals, up to two caged birds, and one dog or one cat. A building that has filed its own version may be more generous or stricter. This is why a listing can say pets are allowed and still mean one dog. Confirm which version applies to the suite you want.
If owners later vote in a tighter pet bylaw, a pet already living in the home may stay, but it cannot be replaced by one that breaks the new rule. Certified guide and service dogs are exempt from pet limits.
In a mid-rise on Whirlaway Crescent or Gateway Road, every walk starts with a corridor and an elevator. A ground-floor suite with a patio makes early-morning and late-night trips easier, while an upper floor trades that convenience for outlook and quiet. Ask which entrance dog owners are expected to use, where the nearest patch of grass is, and whether hard floors need rugs to limit noise for the suite below. For a cat, check the balcony rules and the gaps in the railings. The City Gate Boulevard building is the newest, finished in the mid-2020s, so its pet rules have the shortest track record. Ask whether its council has adopted its own pet bylaw yet.
Thetis Lake Regional Park, off Six Mile Road to the east, has long forest trails where dogs must be under control or on a leash. From June 1 to September 15, dogs are not allowed in the main beach area or in the Prior Lake beach and dock area, although you may pass through on a leash. Goldstream Provincial Park, to the northwest, asks that pets stay leashed at all times, out of beach areas and park buildings, and out of the river during the autumn salmon run. Closer to the Langford core, the Ed Nixon Trail follows Langford Lake for a 4.5-kilometre out-and-back walk to the beach at Scout Point.
These homes tend to suit first-time buyers moving out of a rental with a cat or a small dog, and downsizers who want a lake trail close by without a yard to keep. Owners of a large dog, or of two, often find the apartment limits too tight and widen the search to townhomes elsewhere in Langford. Know your pet's weight, breed and number before you book showings, and ask for the bylaws before you write an offer.
The Florence Lake properties page shows every listing in the neighbourhood, including houses on streets such as Ashley Place and Egret Close, where there is usually no strata pet bylaw to work around. For a wider choice of buildings and townhomes, browse pet-friendly homes across Langford.
Yes, on a leash. The trail circles Florence Lake on boardwalk and sidewalk, but dogs are kept off Langford beaches from June 15 to September 15.
One dog or one cat, up to two caged birds, and a reasonable number of fish and small caged mammals, unless the building has filed its own pet bylaw.
Yes, for any dog over four months old kept in the city for more than 30 days. Licences run to December 31 each year.
