Sooke is not for the faint of heart. It takes a while to get there from the Victoria downtown core, as you face two commuter gridlocks that tend to extend your travel time from there to well over an hour at times, and to a minimum of 45 minutes under optimal conditions.  Infrastructure is being improved at a relatively slow pace and not sufficiently to keep up with housing demand and growth. 

Once you get there your housing cost and options are slightly better than in the core municipalities of Greater Victoria, but the savings are easily offset by the increased transportation and vehicle maintenance expenses and time wasted behind the wheel.  Another thing to consider is the lack of amenities, decent restaurants and luxury shopping due to the somewhat redneckish demographics of the area, as the clip art graphic implies. 

Don't get me wrong, the people living there are nice enough, but they are a somewhat less sophisticated than their more urban Victoria counterparts. 

The area is absolutely stunning though from an environmental perspective.  Sooke is surrounded by stunning natural landscapes, including rugged coastlines, lush forests, and picturesque beaches.

The area's proximity to the ocean and various waterways makes it a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers. The region offers a wide range of outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, fishing, boating, whale watching, and camping. There are several parks and trails, including East Sooke Regional Park, which provides opportunities for hiking and wildlife viewing.

Cycling enthusiasts find joy in pedaling along winding roads that snake through verdant hills, the scent of wildflowers accompanying their journey. For those drawn to the rhythm of the tides, kayaking and canoeing offer a chance to glide upon the tranquil waters of Sooke Basin, where the only soundtrack is the gentle lapping of waves against the hull. Anglers cast their lines into the emerald depths, chasing the thrill of a catch as the sun paints the horizon in hues of gold and rose.

Secluded beaches provide sanctuary for surfers, where they ride the ocean's pulse with unbridled exhilaration. Sooke is a playground for those who seek communion with nature. Whiffin Spit Park stretches like an inviting finger into the sea, a haven for those seeking solace in a tranquil stroll. The enchanting pools of Sooke Potholes Regional Park offer respite on hot summer days, a place where families gather to swim and share picnics in the dappled shade.
