About Lakewood Elementary
Lakewood Elementary is a Kindergarten to Grade 5 school at 2363 Setchfield Avenue in north Langford. It opened in 1995 with 210 students after a 35-month build that the district later cited as an early example of responding quickly to growth. By the school’s 25th anniversary in 2020 it had 465 students and 45 staff.
That growth has not slowed. For 2026-27 the district lists Lakewood among the schools at or nearing capacity. In practice, in-catchment students who cannot be accommodated are waitlisted at Lakewood and placed at a designated overflow school, then given priority to transfer back when space opens, and the district says transfer requests into at-capacity schools cannot be accommodated.
The district’s middle and secondary boundary maps place the Lakewood catchment inside those of Spencer Middle School and Belmont Secondary. The principal’s message puts social responsibility at the centre, with the aim that every child feels successful, connected and supported.
Programs, Care and Registration
Lakewood teaches the BC curriculum in English. Services change from year to year, so confirm details with the school before you buy.
French Immersion at Millstream
The district’s profile of École Millstream says its French Immersion catchment includes the Lakewood area, so Early French Immersion families here look to Millstream, less than a kilometre east of Lakewood. Kindergarten French Immersion registers separately each January, usually by lottery.
Before- and After-School Care
The district’s child care page lists VI Kids Klub as the before- and after-school care provider at Lakewood. Families contact the provider directly about space.
Getting to School
Lakewood has a bus loop and posts district bus registration on its website, which matters in a catchment that reaches into the Highlands. Morning supervision starts at 8:15 a.m.
Check Both Assignments
With Lakewood near capacity and Belmont Secondary also on the district’s 2026-27 capacity list, check both the elementary and the secondary school an address is assigned to, and ask about overflow schools before you buy.
Parents and School Community
The Parent Advisory Council meets in the school library and runs Pizza Thursdays, bottle drives and a Halloween dance, with Grade 4 and 5 students encouraged to help with fundraising. Progress reports go home in November and March, with a summary of learning in June.
Living Within the Lakewood Catchment
The Lakewood catchment is many times larger than its neighbours to the south. Its southern edge follows the Trans-Canada Highway, and from there it takes in the Florence Lake neighbourhood around the school, part of Thetis Heights to the east and much of the Bear Mountain community along Bear Mountain Parkway, then runs north into the District of Highlands along roads such as Millstream Lake Road and Ross-Durrance Road. Florence Lake mixes established family houses, a manufactured-home community and newer condo buildings; Bear Mountain adds resort-area condos, townhomes, large view houses and building lots; the Highlands portion is largely rural. Explore Bear Mountain, Florence Lake and Highlands listings. Neighbouring catchments include Ruth King Elementary across the highway and Willway Elementary to the west, and the north-east edge meets the Prospect Lake Elementary catchment of the Saanich School District (SD63). The map search follows the district’s published catchment map, simplified, so homes right on the edge may fall on either side; check an exact address with the district’s School Locator.
At the start of November 2026 there were about 220 homes listed inside the catchment, and about 157 of them were in Bear Mountain. About 66 houses ran from roughly $910,000 to $5.7 million, median near $1.54 million; 19 townhomes from about $650,000 to $1.6 million; and about 105 condos up to $1.75 million, median near $570,000. The condo floor is misleading: a cluster of suites in Bear Mountain’s resort-area buildings was listed between about $65,000 and $78,000, prices that point to shared or fractional ownership rather than a whole condo. About 25 lots or land parcels were listed from about $250,000 to $2 million, along with three manufactured homes from about $230,000 to $290,000, and nearly half of all listings were built in 2024 or later.
A property’s address inside these boundaries does not by itself guarantee a place at Lakewood Elementary, and here the point is practical: while Lakewood is at or nearing capacity, in-catchment students can be waitlisted and placed at an overflow school. Catchment boundaries, registration rules and program admission can change. French Immersion is a separate program at École Millstream, École John Stubbs Memorial and École Poirier, with its own registration and, when demand exceeds seats, a lottery. The Sooke School District is also running a catchment and pathway review in 2026-27, tied to a new secondary school planned for Langford, with Board decisions expected in spring 2027. A 2,000-seat secondary school is planned just off McCallum Road, and the review will decide which neighbourhoods it serves. Buyers should confirm the current catchment and registration status with School District 62 (Sooke) before relying on school access as part of a real-estate decision.
