About Eagle View Elementary
Eagle View Elementary is at 97 Talcott Road in the north end of View Royal, a short distance from Victoria General Hospital. It teaches Kindergarten to Grade 5 in School District 61 (Greater Victoria), with about 250 students at the district’s September 2021 count, and calls itself a community school where staff, parents and students work together. Its stated priorities are solid foundations in literacy and numeracy and the core competencies of creative and critical thinking and confident communication, and it groups some children in multi-grade classes such as Grade 1/2 and Grade 4/5.
Unlike its View Royal neighbours, Eagle View sits in the district’s Spectrum family of schools. The school has described Colquitz Middle School as its family middle school, and SD61’s pathways chart then leads to Spectrum Community School for Grades 9 to 12. French Immersion follows a different route: the school notes that families whose neighbourhood school is Eagle View use Marigold Elementary for Early French Immersion, then Shoreline Community Middle School and Esquimalt High.
Programs and Learning
Eagle View’s current school goal centres on reading and writing, and a good share of its learning happens outdoors. Program details change from year to year, so confirm them with the school.
Literacy Focus
The school goal is to strengthen students’ reading and writing, within a wider emphasis on literacy, numeracy and the key concepts and big ideas of each subject. Staff note that children do not all learn in the same way or at the same pace.
Place-Based and Outdoor Learning
Learning reaches beyond the classroom through field trips and time outdoors. The school has a forest area, and families are asked to send rain jackets and rubber boots for muddy forest play and outdoor learning.
Choir and Drama
Alongside academics, children can join the school choir and take part in drama, two of the activities the school highlights in its welcome to families.
Running, Track and House Games
Athletics include cross-country, track and field and house games. In spring 2025, 114 students from Kindergarten to Grade 5 joined the running club and 76 Grade 3 to 5 students were on the track team.
School Community and Child Care
The school’s May 2026 newsletter lists Inquiring Little Minds as the before- and after-school care provider on site, and Eagle Creek as an option that picks children up for after-school care. Care is arranged directly with the providers, so ask early about spaces. The Parent Advisory Council runs events such as a spring fair, and the school is scent-aware. Classes start at 8:45 a.m. and end at 2:37 p.m.
Living Within the Eagle View Elementary Catchment
The map search follows the district’s published elementary catchment map, simplified, so homes right on the edge may fall on either side; check an exact address with the district. By area this is a large catchment, roughly 20 square kilometres. Most current listings are in View Royal, in the Six Mile and Hospital MLS® areas: family neighbourhoods around Victoria General Hospital and near the Trans-Canada Highway at Six Mile. From there the boundary takes in much of the Thetis Lake Regional Park area, then reaches north into the District of Highlands, where homes sit on acreage along rural roads, and touches a rural corner of Saanich near Prospect Lake. Browse View Royal real estate and View Royal houses, or the Highlands, including Highlands acreages and land.
At the start of November 2026 there were about 30 homes listed inside the catchment. Detached houses made up about half, with a median asking price near $1.27 million, many of them family homes built between the 1970s and the 2000s. Condos started around $430,000, and a few townhomes were priced between roughly $730,000 and $910,000. Two high-end listings, a Prospect Lake-area estate near $4 million and a View Royal property near $4.7 million, sat well above the rest and pull the averages up.
At the secondary level the catchment belongs to the Spectrum Community School catchment. Next door is the View Royal Elementary catchment.
A property’s address inside these boundaries does not by itself guarantee a place at Eagle View Elementary. Catchment boundaries, registration rules and program admission can change, and some programs depend on capacity. Buyers should confirm the current catchment and registration status with School District 61 (Greater Victoria) before relying on school access as part of a real-estate decision. French Immersion is assigned through a separate SD61 French Immersion catchment that can differ from the English one, with registration each January and seats filled by enrolment priority and, if a school is oversubscribed, by lottery. Compare other catchments on the Greater Victoria schools page.
