About Ruth King Elementary
Ruth King Elementary is a Kindergarten to Grade 5 school at 2764 Jacklin Road, near the corner of Jacklin Road and Goldstream Avenue, which the district’s school profile calls the hub of Langford. The profile describes a neighbourhood growing quickly with new condominiums, a diverse school community with many newly arrived families, and a student body that mostly walks or bikes to school.
To keep up, the Province funded an eight-classroom prefabricated addition announced in October 2023, adding 190 seats, and it opened in fall 2024. The school’s 2025-26 plan describes about 75 staff supporting 20 divisions, with literacy work backed by community partners including Costco Readers and the Rotary Club. A school-wide R.O.C.K.S. code asks students to be respectful, responsible, cooperative, kind, safe and honest and to own their actions.
The district’s middle and secondary boundary maps place the Ruth King catchment inside those of Spencer Middle School and Belmont Secondary, and Spencer lists Ruth King among its five feeder elementary schools.
Programs and Family Services
Ruth King hosts a StrongStart program, which the other four Spencer Middle feeder schools do not list, along with free morning supervision and licensed after-school care. Programs and schedules change, so confirm current details with the school.
StrongStart
A free early-learning drop-in for children five and under with a parent or caregiver, held in a classroom on most weekday mornings, with a weekly outdoor session at Centennial Park on Carlow Road. Families can attend up to three indoor sessions a week.
Free Before-School Drop-In
Two adults supervise students in the gym from 7:30 to 8:25 a.m. The school describes the program as open to all Ruth King students at no cost.
Licensed After-School Care
A licensed after-school program run by Sooke School District staff operates at the school Monday to Thursday until 5 p.m. The district’s child care page lists after-school care only at Ruth King.
Meal Program and Language
The school runs a meal program and Student Services supports. Ruth King teaches in English; SD62 offers Early French Immersion at École Millstream, École John Stubbs Memorial and École Poirier, with separate registration.
Grounds and School Community
The district’s school profile describes grounds the neighbourhood uses every day: two adventure playgrounds, several soccer fields, three baseball diamonds, a basketball and hockey court, a nature play space and a school garden. A Parent Advisory Council supports school events, and the school keeps a Healthy Schools page and a parent volunteer program.
Living Within the Ruth King Catchment
The Ruth King catchment covers about 2.6 square kilometres of central Langford. The Trans-Canada Highway forms its northern edge and Veterans Memorial Parkway and Millstream Road its eastern edge; to the south it follows Goldstream Avenue, then Jacklin Road down to Langford Parkway, and to the west it reaches Langford Lake Road beside the lake. Inside are the Langford Proper blocks around the school and Carlow Road, and the older streets of the Langford Lake area on the lake’s east side. Explore Langford Proper and Langford Lake listings. Neighbouring catchments include Lakewood Elementary across the highway, Willway Elementary to the west, and David Cameron Elementary and Savory Elementary to the south and east. The map search follows the district’s published catchment map, simplified, so homes right on the edge may fall on either side; check an exact address with the district’s School Locator.
At the start of November 2026 there were about 50 homes listed inside the catchment, all in Langford. Townhomes led with about 21 listings from roughly $460,000 to $1 million, several in projects completed in 2026 or due in 2027, and about 17 condos ran from roughly $400,000 to $670,000. The 11 or so houses ranged from about $560,000 to $1.7 million, median near $1.2 million; the top of the market was older Langford Lake area houses, one built in 1928, priced around $1.5 million to $1.7 million, and three neighbouring 1970s houses on one street were listed at about $1.2 million each, a pattern that often points to land value. Manufactured homes started near $150,000, although one older manufactured home was listed near $770,000.
A property’s address inside these boundaries does not by itself guarantee a place at Ruth King Elementary. Catchment boundaries, registration rules and program admission can change. Ruth King was not on the district’s 2026-27 list of schools at or nearing capacity, but that list changes, and when a school fills the district can waitlist in-catchment students and place them at a designated overflow school. French Immersion is a separate program at École Millstream, École John Stubbs Memorial and École Poirier, with its own registration and, when demand exceeds seats, a lottery. The Sooke School District is also running a catchment and pathway review in 2026-27, tied to a new secondary school planned for Langford, with Board decisions expected in spring 2027. Buyers should confirm the current catchment and registration status with School District 62 (Sooke) before relying on school access as part of a real-estate decision.
