Current MLS® listings inside the Frank Hobbs Elementary catchment on Saanich’s eastern shore, from Cadboro Bay village and Ten Mile Point to Queenswood, the Arbutus Road shoreline and the University of Victoria campus, with a profile of the school that anchors the area.
Frank Hobbs Elementary is a Kindergarten to Grade 5 school at 3875 Haro Road in Cadboro Bay, run by School District 61 (Greater Victoria). It has 11 divisions, and its 2025-26 school growth plan counts 231 students. The school describes its grounds as park-like and close to the University of Victoria, with a playing field shared with a neighbouring preschool. On the district’s catchment pathway chart it belongs to the Mount Douglas family of schools: students move on to Arbutus Global Middle School and then to Mount Douglas Secondary.
The school was officially opened in November 1951 by the man it honours. Frank Hobbs, born in Somerset, England, in 1862, settled in the Cadboro Bay area in 1889, ran a small store and post office in the Bay district and served as postmaster for 31 years. He sat on Saanich council and spent 14 years on the old Saanich school board, eight of them as chair, where he championed the plan that gave Saanich its first high schools, Mount Douglas among them. Known as the Grand Old Man of Saanich, he was 88 at the opening and died in 1959 at 96. Fittingly, the catchment pathway still ends at Mount Douglas Secondary.
Frank Hobbs describes a balanced program with weight on academics, the fine arts and athletics, and its 2025-26 growth plan sets a single goal: a welcoming community where every student can succeed. Classes are taught in English. French Immersion is a separate SD61 program offered at nine dual-track elementary schools, neighbouring Campus View among them, with its own French Immersion catchments, online registration and a random draw when seats run short, so buying in this catchment does not decide French Immersion placement. Offerings change from year to year, so confirm current details with the school.
The school frames each day around three strands: solid academic skills, participation in the fine arts and regular sport and fitness, together with social and environmental responsibility.
Runners practise with the school’s coach outside class time and race in after-school meets, usually held at another site starting around 3:45 pm, with families looking after transportation.
Partnerships with the University of Victoria’s Faculty of Education and with Camosun College place pre-service teachers and education-assistant students in several classrooms each year, on both short and long placements.
Before- and after-school care is available at every SD61 elementary school through licensed outside operators. For Frank Hobbs the district lists Arbutus Grove Children’s Centre, and families register with the provider directly.
An active Parent Advisory Council runs hot lunch orders and keeps its own website, and parent volunteers help both inside and outside classrooms. Schoolwide traditions include the Terry Fox Run and an assembly for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, and the school acknowledges that it stands on the traditional territories of the Esquimalt and Songhees Nations. Families are also pointed to eRase, the provincial tool for reporting bullying anonymously.
The catchment takes in some of Saanich’s most distinctive streets: Cadboro Bay village and the beach at Cadboro-Gyro Park, the wooded large lots of Ten Mile Point out to Cadboro Point, the Queenswood and Arbutus Road shoreline and, inland, the UVic campus area. A narrow strip continues up the Gordon Head shore. Cadboro-Gyro Park itself covers more than six hectares on the bay, with a sandy beach, a launch for kayaks and other non-motorized boats, and a playground built in 2014 around the park’s old octopus and sea-serpent sculptures. To the west lies the Campus View Elementary catchment and to the north the Hillcrest Elementary catchment; for secondary school, this is part of the Mount Douglas Secondary catchment. The map search on this page follows the district’s published elementary catchment map, simplified, so homes right on the edge may fall on either side; check an exact address with the district.
Detached houses make up most of what comes up for sale, from late-1930s homes on Queenswood Drive to houses finished in the last two years; about a dozen current listings were built in 2024 or later, at least one with a completion date still ahead. Townhomes, a couple of condos and the odd building lot fill out the rest. At the start of November 2026 there were about 50 homes listed inside the catchment, from townhomes near $850,000 to luxury houses on Ten Mile Point at up to $7.9 million. The typical detached house was asking a little over $3 million, and the midpoint of all listings was about $2.15 million. Compare Ten Mile Point houses, Saanich waterfront homes and Saanich luxury homes, or read about what a catchment address can add to price.
A property’s address inside these boundaries does not by itself guarantee a place at Frank Hobbs Elementary. Catchment boundaries, registration rules and program admission can change, and some programs depend on capacity. Buyers should confirm the current catchment and registration status with School District 61 (Greater Victoria) before relying on school access as part of a real-estate decision. Compare other catchments on the Greater Victoria schools page.
