About SCIANEW STELITKEL Elementary
SCIANEW STELITKEL Elementary School opened in September 2025 at 802 Latoria Road in Langford as a Kindergarten to Grade 5 school with 480 seats in School District 62 (Sooke). The official name is written in the SENCOTEN alphabet, with letters this site cannot display, so we use plain capitals as the district does in its web address and email; the school also gives the English spelling SC’IANEW STELITKEL. The name was gifted by the Sc’ianew First Nation (Beecher Bay) after a search led by Elder Lavina Charles: SCIANEW (said “schee-ay-nuh”) means salmon and STELITKEL (“ska-leetk-luth”) means children.
The City of Langford described the ThinkSpace design as a school imagined as a tree house: a 45,000-square-foot, four-storey building with 16 classrooms and four kindergarten spaces, set into rugged ground on one side and perched above it on the other. The province approved $39.6 million for the project in June 2022 and the district added $1 million.
Before it opened, SD62 drew the school’s catchment, effective September 2025, and automatically enrolled students living inside it who had been in Kindergarten to Grade 4. The district’s letter to those families said students would continue to Dunsmuir Middle School in Colwood for Grade 6, and the district’s boundary maps place the school in the Dunsmuir Middle and Royal Bay Secondary catchments. In 2023 the district said it expected the school to open near or at capacity because of growth in the Latoria and Olympic View area.
Programs and Early Learning
As a brand-new school, SCIANEW STELITKEL is still building its programs and traditions, so confirm current offerings with the school.
Child Care on Site
The district’s child care list shows BGC South Vancouver Island (listed as BGC SVI) running care at the school for children up to age five, as well as before- and after-school care for students. Families register with the operator directly.
Ties to the Sc’ianew Nation
The principal’s message says the school works closely with the Sc’ianew Nation, whose Chief and councillors attended the naming ceremony. The school calendar also includes events from SD62’s Na’tsa’maht Indigenous Education team.
Music and Choir
The school’s extracurricular page lists music and choir, with a separate music website for families. The school has also posted news about a native plant garden on its grounds.
French Immersion Elsewhere
SCIANEW STELITKEL teaches the English program only. West Shore families who want French Immersion apply for Kindergarten entry at École John Stubbs Memorial or Millstream Elementary, or for Grade 6 late immersion at John Stubbs, each with its own registration and lottery.
School Community
Classes run from 8:35 a.m. to 2:28 p.m., and the office is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. The Parent Advisory Council is active, with a Halloween dance, fun food days and hot lunches on the fall 2026 calendar.
Living Within the SCIANEW STELITKEL Elementary Catchment
The catchment covers about 13 square kilometres and stretches roughly 6 km from east to west, from Veterans Memorial Parkway and Latoria Road across Olympic View and Happy Valley to rural land in western Langford. The map search follows the district’s published catchment map, simplified, so homes right on the edge may fall on either side; check an exact address with the district’s School Locator.
Most current listings, about 44 of 51, are in Langford. Olympic View, the neighbourhood around Olympic View Golf Club south of the school, is by far the biggest group, and some of the newest and largest houses in the area are being built there. Happy Valley Road crosses the catchment to the west, with the intersection of Latoria and Happy Valley roads inside it, and part of the Walfred area falls inside at the northern edge. The Colwood listings sit in Olympic View, Latoria and the western edge of Triangle Mountain. Browse Happy Valley real estate, Happy Valley houses, Langford houses or all Langford real estate.
At the start of November 2026 there were about 50 homes listed inside the catchment, with a median asking price near $1.15 million. Detached houses made up 38 of them, from about $830,000 to $2.5 million with a median near $1.24 million; the highest were new houses in Olympic View. Seven townhomes ran from about $740,000 to $1.2 million, a single condo was listed near $350,000, and four land listings started near $535,000. A fifth, a large development parcel near $13.9 million, sits far outside that range. Nearly half of all listings were built in 2024 or later.
For high school, see homes in the Royal Bay Secondary catchment. Neighbouring pages cover the Happy Valley Elementary catchment to the north, the Wishart Elementary catchment to the east and the Hans Helgesen Elementary catchment to the south.
A property’s address inside these boundaries does not by itself guarantee a place at SCIANEW STELITKEL Elementary. This catchment was drawn only in 2025, catchment boundaries and registration rules can change, and when a school is full, SD62 may place new students at a designated overflow school. French Immersion and other programs of choice have their own registration and are not tied to the home catchment. SD62 is running a district catchment and pathway review in 2026-27, with a public town hall on November 16, 2026 and Board decisions expected in spring 2027. Buyers should confirm the current catchment and registration status with School District 62 (Sooke) before relying on school access as part of a real-estate decision.
