About Spencer Middle School

Spencer Middle School is a Grade 6 to 8 public school at 1026 Goldstream Avenue in Langford, part of School District 62 (Sooke). It sits on one of central Langford’s main streets, and its athletes compete as the Spencer Wildcats.

Spencer is the middle step in one of the Westshore’s main school pathways. According to the school, students from David Cameron, Lakewood, Ruth King and Savory elementary schools, and from the English program at Millstream Elementary, move on to Spencer for Grades 6 to 8. SD62 confirmed in a recent pathway change that David Cameron students begin attending Spencer from September 2026, and that Spencer in turn feeds into Belmont Secondary for Grades 9 to 12.

The school’s current plan sets three goals: building belonging, connection and resilience through caring relationships; improving reading comprehension in every subject; and strengthening number sense and confidence in math through real-world learning. Spencer acknowledges that it stands on Coast Salish and Nuu-chah-nulth traditional territories, and about one in ten of its students is Indigenous.

Academic and Specialty Programs

Middle school is about exploring, and Spencer pairs the core BC curriculum with an academy, ADST and arts options and a busy roster of music clubs. Offerings and registration dates change from year to year, so confirm the details with the school or the district academies office.

Hockey Academy

SD62 lists a Hockey Academy at Spencer for Grades 6 to 8. Families register through the district’s academies office, and registration for the 2026–27 year opened on February 25, 2026.

Dance Program

Separate from the academies, the district notes that Spencer runs a dance program for Grade 7 and 8 students. It is not an academy, and families register for it directly through the school office.

ADST and the Arts

Applied Design, Skills and Technology and Arts Education are required in the middle years. Spencer offers a range of age-appropriate options, taught by classroom teachers and by specialists in areas such as woodworking, to help students discover interests before choosing secondary courses.

Music Clubs

Music runs before school and at lunch: a Love to Sing choir, an early-morning drumline, a percussion ensemble, a rock and blues band and a dance club, with extra practice time on Fridays. The choir, drumline and percussion groups are open to all three grades.

Arts, Athletics and School Community

Wildcats Athletics fields boys’ and girls’ basketball teams at both competitive and recreational levels, runs volleyball clinics, and plays other middle schools across the region. Lunchtime intramurals such as floor ball keep more students active, the athletics calendar includes after-school cricket, and a senior and a junior cheer squad practise at lunch.

Food support is part of daily life here. A drop-in breakfast program, run by volunteers and funded by local families and businesses, is open to every student before school; a hot lunch program with the Flourish School Food Society serves a limited number of meals each day to families who need them most; Backpack Buddies sends food home for the weekend; and the BC School Fruit and Veggie Program delivers local produce to classrooms. Spencer also has an Indigenous Education teacher and a Na’tsa’maht cultural program assistant, a library learning commons and a Parent Advisory Council.

Living Within the Spencer Catchment

The map search on this page covers central Langford: Langford Proper around Goldstream Avenue, Jacklin Road and Station Avenue, the Glen Lake and Langford Lake neighbourhoods to the west, and Mill Hill and the Fairway area to the east, plus the Hatley Park and Colwood Lake areas of Colwood to the south. Its western edge reaches the Belmont Secondary campus and the edge of Westhills. It is this site’s own approximation rather than SD62’s official catchment map. For wider searches, see Langford properties or Colwood properties.

Because this is central Langford, condos make up a large share of the listings, from new studio suites at Pavilion 1 on Station Avenue to Lakeside West near Langford Lake; browse every Langford condo for sale for more. Townhomes, 1960s and 1970s family houses, manufactured homes in established parks and a few older homes near Langford Lake fill out the mix. In late October 2026 there were about 177 homes listed inside the map area, priced from roughly $150,000 for a manufactured home to about $1.7 million for a house near Langford Lake, with an average asking price near $645,000.

A property’s address inside these boundaries does not by itself guarantee a place at Spencer Middle School. Catchment boundaries, pathways and registration rules can change, and academy places depend on capacity. SD62 began a district catchment and pathway review in October 2026, with an open house planned at Spencer in January 2027 and board decisions expected that spring. Buyers should confirm the current catchment and registration status with School District 62 (Sooke) before relying on school access as part of a real-estate decision.
