About Reynolds Secondary School

Reynolds Secondary School, also known by its French name, École Secondaire Reynolds, is at 3963 Borden Street in Saanich. It teaches Grades 9 through 12 in School District 61 (Greater Victoria), and the district’s latest profile puts enrolment at about 970 students. Junior teams are drawn from Grades 9 and 10 and senior teams from Grades 11 and 12.

The land was farmed for more than a century before the school district bought it in 1960. Reynolds opened in September 1967 as a junior secondary school under its first principal, W. R. Hunter, and added the senior grades in 1969 and 1970. Its setting is still unusually green for a central location: the school notes that the Swan Lake Nature Sanctuary is about a ten-minute walk away and is used for science classes, that many students cycle to school, and that the University of Victoria is roughly fifteen minutes away by bus.

Cedar Hill Middle School, a dual-track English and French school for Grades 6 to 8, describes itself as part of the Reynolds family of schools. Elementary pathways vary by address and program, so families should look up a specific property with the SD61 School Locator.

Academic and Specialty Programs

Reynolds combines a full academic program with French Immersion, a soccer academy, an experiential learning stream and a large performing arts department. Several of these programs have their own application process, and details change from year to year, so families should confirm current information with the school.

French Immersion

With more than 300 students, the school describes its program as the largest French Immersion program in SD61. Immersion students take three courses in French in Grades 9 and 10, two in Grade 11 and one in Grade 12, and can graduate with both an English and a French Dogwood diploma.

Centre for Soccer Excellence

An application-based, multi-grade academy that pairs on-field training with classroom work in cross-training, goal setting, nutrition, anatomy, strength training, sport psychology and the history and laws of the game. Students work with experienced coaches, an athletic therapist and a strength and conditioning instructor.

Flexible Studies

A nationally recognized program for students who learn best through inquiry, outdoor learning, community connections and service. It is built around a six-part framework the school calls VOICES and suits students who are curious, comfortable working in groups or alone and focused on learning more than marks. Entry is by application.

Music

Reynolds Music runs more than 15 vocal and instrumental ensembles, including choirs, jazz groups, strings, band, R&B and seasonal groups, plus a marching band the school calls award-winning. Students can join starting in Grade 9, and the program performs in the community and on tour.

Musical Theatre

The school stages a full musical every year, with auditions in the fall and a run of a week or more in late February or early March. Past productions include The Music Man, Grease, Guys and Dolls, Bye Bye Birdie and Legally Blonde, and students of any experience level can perform or work on crew.

Leadership and Service

Run under the motto “Make a Difference, Make it Happen,” the leadership and service program connects students with volunteer work in the school and community, alongside career centre support, peer tutoring and scholarship guidance.

Arts, Athletics and School Community

Athletics run through the whole year. Fall teams include cross-country, field hockey, rowing, boys’ soccer, swimming and volleyball; winter brings basketball, curling, wrestling and ski and snowboard; and spring adds badminton, cycling, golf, rugby, girls’ soccer and tennis, with track and field running from February to June and mountain biking also on the list.

Beyond music and theatre, the arts program covers ceramics, dance, drama, drawing and painting, film and television, media arts and photography, and course options extend to electronics, metalwork, woodwork, robotics, textiles, foods and accounting. The school’s ReyBots robotics team competes in FIRST robotics events, and clubs have included Model United Nations, debate, anime, studio art, a Pride club, a local food production project and the Cops for Cancer fundraising team. Course offerings in English and social studies are wide, from creative writing and spoken language to criminology, Indigenous studies, philosophy and twentieth-century history.

Living Within the Reynolds Catchment

The map search on this page covers a broad wedge of central Saanich. It starts near Tolmie Avenue and the Quadra and Maplewood neighbourhoods, runs north through Cedar Hill, Lake Hill, Swan Lake and High Quadra, and reaches the farmland of the Blenkinsop Valley and the eastern side of Broadmead. It is this site’s approximation, not the district’s official boundary, and it also takes in a few addresses on the Victoria side of Tolmie Avenue. Neighbouring catchments include Mount Doug to the east, Spectrum to the west and Victoria High to the south. See also all Saanich condos or Saanich real estate.

Housing here is especially varied. Apartment condos from the 1970s and 1980s line Quadra Street, Glasgow Avenue, McKenzie Avenue, Inverness Road and Tolmie Avenue, with a few newer buildings mixed in. Cedar Hill, Lake Hill and High Quadra are mostly post-war and 1960s houses with a growing number of newer rebuilds; there are larger 2010s townhomes near Swan Lake, executive houses from the late 1980s and 1990s in Broadmead, and rural lots along Blenkinsop Road. In late October 2026 there were about 163 homes listed inside the map area, priced from roughly $290,000 for a one-bedroom condo to $5.2 million for a property on Blenkinsop Road. The average asking price was close to $1 million, lower than in the Gordon Head catchments, largely because condos make up a big share of the listings.

A property’s address inside these boundaries does not by itself guarantee a place at Reynolds Secondary. Catchment boundaries, registration rules and program admission can change, and some programs depend on capacity. Buyers should confirm the current catchment and registration status with School District 61 (Greater Victoria) before relying on school access as part of a real-estate decision.
